SMOKE SCREENS
Fires emit copious amounts of smoke, a factor that not only renders the air oppressive but also significantly obstructs visibility. With the priority of facilitating safe evacuations from fire-stricken spaces, a recent mandate prescribes the use of smoke screens to establish smoke compartments. These compartments play a pivotal role in curtailing the vertical diffusion of smoke through staircases and escalator shafts. Following NBC guidelines, it’s stipulated that smoke barriers or screens must be integrated into the ceiling at platform and concourse levels. These barriers are engineered to withstand temperatures of up to 250°C for a duration of 60 minutes. Moreover, smoke barriers will be deployed around openings housing staircases, escalators, and elevators within public areas, fortifying fire safety measures comprehensively.
